Best Way to Get a Healthy Glow to Your Skin

A healthy glow is something we all want to achieve, especially in the depths of a gloomy winter. For the best results, buy one of the natural products mentioned in this article – or make your own.

The best way to get a healthy, just-got-back-from-a-brisk-walk glow is, of course, to go for a brisk walk, but blusher was invented for times when you want to be able to fake that healthy look.

The most natural blusher choices you can buy in stores come from the companies such as: Dr. Hauschka, Logona, Jane Iredale, Aveda, Origins, and Colorings at The Body Shop. Most of these companies offer powder blushers, although Origins offers one in a gel form, much-loved by celebrities, called Pinch Your Cheeks. Just the merest dab goes a long, long way, giving a see-through flush that is ultrarealistic (provided you’re not too heavy-handed.)

Many hip beauty companies offer “cheek tints” instead of cream or powder blushers, which give a natural, translucent, healthy glow. It is also incredibly easy to make your own with beet juice.

So, once you’ve bought it, how should you apply it? Contrary to popular myth, the most natural-looking place for blusher definitely is not in a stripe along the cheekbone. Nobody blushes there, in real life. For a natural, flattering flush, apply blusher to the “apples” of the cheeks. Locate yours by smiling: the apple of your cheeks will bulge slightly. Apply blusher there, and blend outward using a very light touch. Use this technique, whatever formulation of blusher you choose.

To get that rosy-cheeked look, you can make a cheek tint at home using organic beet that gives exactly the same result as those created by some large cosmetic companies and which is, of course, 100 percent free of preservatives and artificial dyes.

Its transparency makes it perfect for giving a natural-looking glow to bare skin for outdoor activities, but it can also be applied over foundation. Unlike powder blushers, which sit on the skin, this blusher never looks dusty. To make the cheek tint you will need: 1 tsp glycerin 4-6 drops beet juice (more for a darker tint of blusher)

Grate a raw beet and strain the resulting juice. Put the juice in a saucepan and simmer to reduce it to a quarter of its original volume (watch the pan!) When cooled, add the juice to the glycerin in a small glass bottle, using a dropper, and shake well.

Because makeup technology is so complicated, this is the only blusher that is practical to make at home.
